“Well I stopped into this beach-side spot
where the fish was cold and the beer was hot
and I sat myself right down there, in that seat
She marched right in, all full of sass
said, ‘I need a beer and I need it fast’
I just sat there. Just starin’ at her feet
She had that sort of Redneck grace
with a Devil’s heart and an Angel’s face
and a full week’s worth of beach tar in her toes
Well I looked at her. She gave me a frown.
She said, ‘yer wearing’ shoes. From out’a town?’
My heart began to melt and then it froze.
Then she grabbed her beer and began to chug
she stole my heart as she drained that mug
and left me feelin’ crumpled on the floor.
Oh Lord. Give back my heart –
beer swiggin’ barefoot woman.
I’d love to leave my shoes outside your door.”
